Experience and Approach to Therapy
Growing up, I always wanted to be a helper. I traveled different paths exploring how to fulfill that role of helper. The common theme of those paths was that I saw the power of human connection. To truly be seen and heard, enabled some of the most profound experiences and true human connection. It instilled in me a deep desire to understand the world through your eyes so we can explore together alternative perspectives and get curious about the beliefs that guide your life choices. By understanding a person’s subjective view of personal experience, their interpersonal relationships, and the world in which they live, I leverage practical tools with personal strength to foster improvement. Facilitating trust is my highest priority. We focus on building our relationship the first few sessions to explore your goals and create the best approach to meeting them. We spend time identifying and challenging any beliefs that no longer serve you. Being vulnerable and willing to do the work in therapy is hard but it will help you create a life worth living.
I view myself as a lifelong learner and crave knowledge. I am an avid reader and seek out evidenced based trainings to be up to date on current research. People fascinate me. I know a lot about mental health and wellness, but I am always learning more. While fully aware of the power differences in therapy, I do not view myself as the expert on you. I want to empower you to trust yourself and find the answers that allow you to align your actions and beliefs with your authentic self.
I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including a domestic violence agency, a residential treatment facility for at-risk youth, a substance abuse facility, a community mental health agency for pregnant and parenting teens/young adults, a community mental health agency for at-risk and homeless youth, a college counseling center, and group practices.
Some of my clinical areas of interest include trauma, loss and grief, substance abuse, identity development, interpersonal relationships, interpersonal partner violence/domestic violence, women's issues, maternal mental wellness, and working with military families/soldiers.
I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and life experiences (both civilian and military). I currently work with adults (18+) virtually.
